  • I purchased an "Ibanez AE20d NT made in Korea" in 05-97, and went to the wiki to check manufacture date with the serial number. According to the guide, the first digit should be a letter. Mine is definitely a '2'. Serial number being 2 96 06 1105 (separated for clarity) the year/date and manufacturing number seems to line up. Just wanted to mention the first digit not matching the guide.

    Great site!

    • Hey Tim,

Thanks for the info. That article on serial numbers is really focused on solid body guitars as that is the primary scope of the wiki up to this point. We are just starting to branch out into acoustics, which have a completely different set of serial number rules for the most part. Unfortunately, we haven't yet had time to research and document these acoustic serial numbers.

As for your particular example, I think you're right that the 2nd through 5th digits represent the production year and month. The initial digit likely identifies the particular plant or supplier of this guitar.
