{{ Info1.png }} Template documentation: Video [edit] [purge]

This documentation is transcluded from Template:Video/doc.

Once uploaded, a video can be simply added to an article using this template. A similar template is {{Image}} can be used to add images.

How to use

These are the more standard and most used parameters. When not used, its wise to remove the complete rule, otherwise it might create the wrong output:

{{Video
 | name     =
 | alt-text =
 | caption  =
 | width    =
}}

What goes where?

  • name — the name of the video which has been previously uploaded to the wiki
  • alt-text optional — alt text which will be displayed for users with screen readers or other accessibility assistants. Although this field is optional, it's highly recommended to always add a brief description of the video to help make the wiki accessible to all users.
  • caption optional — the video caption which will be displayed below the video player. Often the name can be used.
  • width optional — the desired width of the video player 400 px (defaults to 680px)

Examples

Name only

The Making of Woody
{{Video
 | name = The Making of Woody
}}
gives -->

Note the default dimensions (680 x 340) and absence of any caption

Adding caption and width

The Making of Woody
{{Video
 | name = The Making of Woody
 | caption = The Making of Woody
 | width   = 400px
}}
gives -->

Note the caption below the video and the narrower width.

Using 'alt-text'

The Making of Woody
{{Video
 | name = The Making of Woody
 | alt-text = Guitarist Steve Vai and Ibanez design team plan and build Vai's new JEM Woody guitar
 | caption = The Making of Woody
}}

Note the caption below the video and the standard width (680 px). The "alt" text can be seen if you view the page source or use a screen reader.
