The SR505 is a five string Soundgear series solid body electric bass model introduced by Ibanez in 2004. It was produced initially in South Korea, but production moved to Indonesia in 2008. It is part of the Standard line.
The SR505 features a double-cutaway mahogany body bolted to a wenge and bubinga SR5 neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with abalone oval position markers. Components include a pair of Bartolini MK1-5 passive pickups with a Bartolini MK1 preamp with a 3-band EQ, an Accu-cast B25 fixed bridge with 16.5mm string spacing, a plastic nut, and Ibanez die-cast tuning machines.
For 2008 the neck construction was changed to jatoba and bubinga. For 2010 the preamp was changed to an Ibanez EQB-IIIS with 3-band EQ and 2-way mid-frequency selector. For 2012 the bridge was replaced with the new Accu-cast B305. For 2016 the preamp was again changed, this time to an Ibanez Custom Electronics BEQ3 with 3-band EQ and 3-way mid-frequency selector. For 2018 the neck construction was changed to jatoba and walnut and the fretboard was changed to jatoba.
The SR500 and SR506 are four string and six string versions. The SR505L is a left–handed version. The SR505B is a similar spot model with black hardware and a unique Silver Arctic finish. The SR505M is a similar model with a maple fingerboard. Several versions with exotic tops were also produced: the SR505PB (poplar burl), SR505QM (quilted maple), SR505SM (spalted maple), SR505ZW (zebrawood). The SR505T is a similar model with neck-through-body construction.
The SR505 was discontinued after 2018 and replaced for 2019 by the similar SR505E.
