SR5000MPW with maple, walnut & basswood body and Oil finish
The SR5000MPW is a Soundgear series solid body electric bass model introduced by Ibanez for 1996. It was produced in Japan by FujiGen as the initial Soundgear model in the upscale Prestige line. It was also referred to as simply the SR5000 or as the SR5000MP.
The SR5000MPW has a special arched, double-cutaway seven-piece body constructed of two outer maple pieces separated from a walnut center block by thin walnut and basswood strips which is bolted to a bubinga and wenge SR neck with a 24-fret wenge fingerboard with abalone oval position markers and a "Custom Made" inlay at the 24th fret. The headstock features a striped ebony veneer and a valoot. Components include individually mounted Mono-rail fixed bridges with a D-tuner on the bass (E) string, a pair of Ibanez Active Full Range (AFR) active P/J pickups channeled through a Vari-mid preamp with a 3-band EQ and sweepable mid-frequency crossover control, a graphite nut, pearl gold hardware and deluxe Gotoh tuning machines.
The SR5005MPW is a five string version. The SR5000SM is a similar model with a nine-piece saman, walnut and basswood body construction. The SR5000MM is a similar model with a nine-piece mahogany, walnut and basswood body construction. The SR5000MW is a related model with mahogany in place of maple in the body makeup and different electronics.
