The S9870 is an S series solid body electric guitar introduced by Ibanez for 2000. It was made in Japan by FujiGen as part of the J Custom line. This model was introduced as a limited production model called the JCS-1; it was brought back the following year as the S9870.
The S9870 features a Honduran mahogany body with a quilted maple top with a set-in maple and bubinga neck with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with flame maple binding and offset mother of pearl dot position markers. Components include DiMarzio pickups with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines.
The S9870 was discontinued in 2002 after three years of production. It is believed that just twelve examples were produced each year, for a total production of 36.[1] Another S series model wouldn't appear in the J Custom line until the introduction of the S8570 in 2010.
