The S540LTD is an S series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1993. It was made in Japan by FujiGen.
The S540LTD was based on the S540 which was redesigned and renamed (from 540S) for 1993. It is also referred to in at least one catalog as the S540LD, although that may have been a typo.
The S540LTD features a mahogany body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with binding and sharktooth position markers. Components include a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut, Ibanez pickups with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil and Gotoh tuning machines. Initially the pickups were IBZ/USA F1/C3/F2s made by DiMarzio, but for 1995 these were replaced with Ibanez Quantums.
In 1998 the neck was changed from a one-piece maple construction to a three-piece maple and bubinga construction and the neck profile was changed from the Wizard to the Super Wizard.
The S540FM (flamed maple top and oval fretboard inlays). S540BM (burl mahogany top and oval inlays), S540QS (quilted sapele top and oval inlays) and S540QM (quilted maple top and oval inlays) are related models.
Ths S540LTD was discontinued after 1999.
