The RS135 is a Roadstar II series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1983
The RS135 features a birch top on a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret maple fingerboard with black dot position markers. Components include three Ibanez Super 5 single coil pickups mounted in a white pickguard with the bridge pickup askew, a pickup phase mini-toggle switch, a Powerocker synchronized tremolo bridge, a graphite nut, Sure Grip II control knobs and Smooth Tuner II machine heads. The headstock is finished to match the body.
A special version of the RS135 dubbed the Comet Series was launched in mid-1984. These featured four bright, new finishes with matching pickup covers and headstocks as well as special versions of the black and white guitars with unpainted, natural headstocks. The Comet Series versions were offered only in 1984.
Several changes were introduced for 1985, including eliminating the birch top, replacing the white pickguard with a black one with a different shape and replacing the Sure Grip II knobs with Tek Grip knobs.
The RS135L is a left-handed version which was offered in 1985. The RS130 is a similar model with a fixed bridge. The RS230 is a related model with different pickups, no pickguard and a rosewood fretboard.
The RS135 was discontinued after 1985. It was replaced for 1986 by the RG135.
