The RGIR28FE is an eight string RG series solid body electric guitar released in 2013. It was among the first guitars produced in the metal-focused Iron Label line. Like the other Iron Label models, the RGIR28FE is produced in Indonesia.
The RGIR28FE features a basswood body with contrasting binding bolted to a 27" scale maple and walnut Nitro Wizard-8 neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with no inlays. Components include a Gibraltar fixed bridge, dual EMG active 808 humbucking pickups and a kill switch.
For 2013 the neck contained titanium reinforcing rods, but this feature was omitted starting in 2014. Also for 2014, the Gibraltar Standard-8 bridge was replaced by the Gibraltar Standard II-8.
Variants also introduced in 2013 included six-string fixed and tremolo versions, the RGIR20FE and RGIR20E, and seven-string fixed and tremolo variants, the RGIR27FE and RGIR27E. A 28" scale length six-string, the RGIB6, was added the following year.
The RGIR28FE was discontinued after 2016, replaced by the RGIR38BFE.
