The RG8520 is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in late 2017. It is made in Japan by FujiGen as part of the high-end J Custom line.
The RG8520 features a 4mm thick flamed maple top with natural binding on an African mahogany body bolted to a maple and wenge neck with VelveTouch finish and a selected rosewood fingerboard with flame maple binding and Tree of Life inlays. Components include a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge, dual DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbucking pickups with a mini-toggle coil split switch, Gotoh tuning machines and Gotoh locking strap pins.
For 2019 the rosewood fretboard was replaced with macassar ebony for guitars produced for markets outside of Japan; the Japanese model retains the rosewood fretboard. For 2020 the Macassar ebony fretboard was adopted in all markets.
A very similar guitar with the same name appeared in 2016; notable differences include the neck and control configuration. The R3112A44L3 is a similar model with different woods used for the body and neck. The RG8520LTD is a related limited edition model with a marblewood top and Kalimantan ebony fretboard. The RG8560 is a related model with an HSS pickup configuration.
