The RG770 is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1990. It was orignally part of the Roadstar series, which became known as the RG series.
The RG770 features a basswood body bolted to a maple Wizard neck with a 24-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with shark's tooth position markers. Components include DiMarzio-made IBZ/USA pickups with two humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines.
The pickups on the RG770 were mounted in pickup rings in 1990 and 1991, but starting in 1992 they were mounted directly to the body. Also in 1992 a new low-profile tremolo was swapped out for the original Edge.
The RG570 which was introduced a year earlier, is similar but has Ibanez pickups, dot inlays and lacks the fretboard binding.
The RG770FM is a similar model with a flame maple top. The RG770DX is a related model with a maple fretboard with color-matched inlays and a clear pickguard. The RG770QM is a related model with a quilted maple top and dot fretboard markers.
For the Japanese market, a model with a special paisley graphic finish was made, known as the RG770 CP-P. In catalogs, this model was shown with the somewhat different Cutaway Heel neck joint. A similar finish was available for the RG760.
The RG770 was discontinued after 1993. In 1994, a similar model with gold hardware was introduced as the RG770G as one of the last models of the RG700 subseries. A lot of recent models such as the RG2570Z are still based on the RG770 setup.
