The RG2228A is an eight-string RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2012. It was part of the Japanese crafted Prestige line.

The RG2228A features a basswood body mated to a 27" scale maple and wenge Ultra neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. Components include dual DiMarzio humbucking pickups with a 5-way selector switch, a fixed bridge, a locking nut and Gotoh tuners.

The RG2228 is a virtual twin except it has EMG pickups and a 3-way selector switch.

The RG2228A was discontinued after 2013.
