The RG220B is an RG series solid body electric guitar introduced by Ibanez in 1998. It was produced by Cort in South Korea. It was a spot model that is believed to have been sold exclusively by the Guitar Center retail chain in the US.
The RG220B features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include a tremolo bridge and dual Ibanez humbucking pickups. The bridge was initially a single locking SLT101 tremolo, this was replaced in mid-2001 by a double locking ITL1 tremolo, then by a double locking Edge Pro II for 2003 and finally for 2005 with the double locking Edge III tremolo. Ibanez Powersound pickups were replaced by Infinity pickups for 2005.
Other changes for this model include a move from a 3-way to a 5-way pickup selector for 2003 and from a one-piece to a three-piece maple neck for 2005.
The RG220 is a similar model with chrome hardware. The RG270 is a similar model with a middle single coil pickup.
The RG220B was discontinued after 2005, with a somewhat similar GRG220DEX introduced in 2007.
