The RB840 is a "Deluxe" edition Roadstar II Bass series solid body electric bass model introduced by Ibanez for 1983. It was produced at the Terada Plant in Japan.
The RB820 features a double-cutaway alder and birch body with arched top bolted to a maple neck with a fret-less rosewood fingerboard with fret lines, white dot position markers, white side dots and a maple headstock. Components include a Super J6 passive pickup, an Accu-cast B II bridge with 19mm string spacing, a plastic nut, Velve tune B II tuning machines and Ibanez "Dead End" strap buttons.
For the year 1986 a model with the same name was made as part of the Standard line; This model is a fretted version with PJ pickup configuration.
