The PM2 is a hollow body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2013. It is a signature model for American jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny. It replaced the PM35 as the more affordable model in Metheny's line. It was initially made in China, but production was moved to Indonesia in mid-2018.
The PM2 features a full-sized, single cutaway, full hollow body design with a maple top with ƒ holes and multi-layer binding and maple back and sides mated to a set-in mahogany and maple neck with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with binding and pearl/acrylic and abalone split block position markers. Components include a single Ibanez Super 58 humbucking pickup with gold cover mounted at the neck, a Tune-o-matic style bridge floating on a wood base with a trapeze tailpiece, a bone nut and Sure Grip knobs.
For 2015 the pearl and abalone inlays were replaced with acrylic and abalone. For 2019 the wood species used for the body was changed from maple to linden and the mahogany and maple neck was replaced with nyatoh and maple. For 2020 the body material reverted to maple and the bridge was replaced with the new Gibraltar Artist.
The PM200 is a more expensive Japanese-made version with a slightly larger body and different hardware and pickup.
