The PL4040 is a Pro Line series solid body electric bass model introduced by Ibanez for 1987. It was produced in Japan by FujiGen.

The PL4040 features a double-cutaway basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot position markers, side dots, a graphite nut and a black headstock. Components include a set of Ibanez P/J-50 pickup's on the neck and bridge positons, an Accu-cast B II solid bridge with 19mm string spacing, Ibanez Smooth Tuner BII machine heads and black hardware.

The PL5050 is a related model with alder body, ebony fretboard and Ibanez LO-B pickups.

The PL4040 was only offered in 1987.
