The PF5 is a Performance series acoustic guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1993. It was initially produced in South Korea but production moved to China in 2000.
The PF5 features a dreadnought body constructed of a laminated spruce top with black and white binding on laminated mahogany back and sides with a gloss finish. The round soundhole has a black and white waterslide rosette and a black pickguard. The maple neck joins the body at the 14th fret with a dovetail joint and has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot position markers. Components include a compensated plastic saddle in a rosewood bridge with white bridge pins, a plastic nut, and chrome covered tuning machines.
For 1994 the body material was changed to nato and the neck to mahogany in the US market, at the same time the neck material was changed to nato for the European market. For 1996 the material used for the body returned to mahogany. For 1998 three new finishes were added: Black, Marine Sunburst and Tobacco Sunburst. For 2003 a special design rosette was added. For 2005 the tuning machines were changed to gold plated die-cast.
The PF5L is a left-handed version. The PF512 is a twelve string version. The PF5S is a related model with solid spruce top and snow-flake fingerboard inlays. The PF5E, PF5CE, and PF5ECE are related electric-acoustic models with cutaway bodies. The PC5 is a related model with a slightly smaller grand concert body.
