The PF28ECE features a dreadnought body shape with a Venetian cutaway and a laminated flamed maple top with black and ivory multi-binding on mahogany back and sides with a high gloss finish. The round soundhole has a decorated waterslide decal rosette. The mahogany neck has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with binding and small white dot position markers. Components include a compensated Ivorex II saddle in a rosewood bridge with white Ibanez Advantage bridge pins, an Ivorex II nut, and chrome Ibanez tuning machines. Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore undersaddle pickup connected to an Ibanez AEQ-SST Shape Shifter preamp with onboard tuner powered by a 9V battery, and balanced XLR and ¼" stereo outputs.
For 2013 the Ivorex II saddle and nut were replaced with plastic. For 2016 the preamp was replaced with the Ibanez AEQ-SP2. For 2018 the mahogany back and sides were replaced with sapele and the rosewood fretboard and bridge were replaced with purpleheart. For 2019 the mahogany neck was replaced with okoume.
