The PF28ECE is a Performance series acoustic/electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2012. It is made in China.
The PF28ECE features a dreadnought body shape with a Venetian cutaway and a laminated flamed maple top with black and ivory multi-binding on mahogany back and sides with a high gloss finish. The round soundhole has a decorated waterslide decal rosette. The mahogany neck has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with binding and small white dot position markers. Components include a compensated Ivorex II saddle in a rosewood bridge with white Ibanez Advantage bridge pins, an Ivorex II nut, and chrome Ibanez tuning machines.
Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore undersaddle pickup connected to an Ibanez AEQ-SST Shape Shifter preamp with onboard tuner powered by a 9V battery and feeding balanced XLR and ¼" stereo outputs.
For 2013 the Ivorex II saddle and nut were replaced with plastic. For 2016 the preamp was replaced with the Ibanez AEQ-SP2. For 2018 the mahogany back and sides were replaced with sapele and the rosewood fretboard and bridge were replaced with purpleheart. For 2019 the mahogany neck was replaced with okoume, and the neck profile was changed slightly. For 2021 the body width was increased very slightly. The Fishman pickup was renamed from Sonicore to S-Core for 2024, but it is otherwise unchanged.
The PF28CE is a similar model with a spruce top and different electronics. The PF28 is a full acoustic version with a spruce top and without the cutaway body.
