The PCBE12MH is a Performance series acoustic/ electric bass model introduced by Ibanez for 2014. It was initially made in Indonesia, but production was moved to China for 2015. Production returned to Indonesia for 2020 while continuing in China. Differences between the Indonesian and Chinese versions are enumerated in the specification table below.
The PCBE12MH features a grand concert body with a laminated mahogany top on mahogany back and sides. The round soundhole has an abalone rosette. The mahogany neck has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with small white dot position markers. Components include a compensated plastic saddle in a rosewood bridge with black plastic bridge pins, a plastic nut, and chrome Ibanez tuning machines. Electronics consist of an Ibanez under saddle pickup connected to an AEQ-SP2 preamp with on-board tuner powered by a 9V battery and a 1/4" stereo end-pin output jack.
For 2015 the abalone rosette was replaced with tortoiseshell and the mahogany neck was replaced with maple. For 2018 the top, back and sides were replaced with sapele and the rosewood fretboard was replaced with treated New Zealand pine or nandu wood (depending on market). For 2019, the nandu wood fretboard was used in all markets. For 2020 the body material was changed to okoume or sapele (depending on market) and the fretboard and bridge were changed to laurel or nandu wood.
The PCBE12 is a similar model with a spruce top. The PCBE14MH is a similar model with a black finish and different preamp.
