The Mono-rail Vs is a fixed bridge used on certain Ibanez electric bass models. It is also referred to as the Mono-rail 5S, the MR5S, or the MR-5S. It adds a capacity for sideways adjustment to the Mono-rail V.
As its name implies the Mono-rail Vs bridge anchors only a single string as opposed to most bridges used on basses which anchor all four (or more) of the strings. This allows each individual bridge to be mounted at the ideal location to provide perfect intonation. Because of the flexibility this design affords it is used on multi scale basses with fanned frets, although it is also used on many guitars with traditional straight frets.
The design allows for equalized tension across all strings while isolating each string so that it vibrates optimally without impacting any others. The saddle can be moved fore and aft to adjust intonation using the longitudinally positioned Philips screw at the rear of the bridge.
In addition, the MR-5S allows 1.5mm of side-to-side adjustment to allow the player to dial in their ideal string spacing. Changing the string spacing can be done by first releasing the saddle sideways locking mechanism, which is the third small hex screw near the two front hex keys on the saddle. Set the desired string spacing manually and then lock down the saddle by tightening the hex screw. Once adjusted the saddle is locked down to prevent any further movement and assure string vibration is transferred to the body of the instrument.[1]
The Mono-rail Vs bridge was introduced for 2019 on the Soundgear Prestige SR5000, SR5005, and SR5006. It has since been used on several models in the Soundgear and BTB series. The Mono-rail guitar bridge is a similar, smaller bridge used on guitars and some hybrid models.
