For a list of MBM models, see Portal:Matt Bachand series.

The Matt Bachand series is a line of solid body electric guitars produced by Ibanez for Matt Bachand, guitarist for American heavy metal band Shadows Fall.

History[]

The MBM line consists of two models. Both MBM models are based on the arched-top super-Strat RGA body. Both feature active EMG pickups, a simple control setup eschewing a tone control and a special signature skull graphic.

MBM1[]

The Prestige-level MBM1 was introduced for 2007. It has a mahogany body with a pearloid binding and a black finish with dual EMG humbucking pickups and a Gibraltar Plus fixed bridge. Controls consist only of a master volume knob and a 3-way pickup selector level. Other high-end features of this model include the Gotoh tuning machines.[1]

MBM2[]

The MBM2 was introduced in 2009 as essentially a mass-market version of the MBM1. It is quite similar to the MBM1 with the same body and graphic, the same pickups and the same controls. Differences include a 3-piece maple neck (instead of the MBM1's 5-piece maple and walnut), a Gibraltar Standard bridge and Ibanez tuners.

The MBM2 was offered in black with a white graphic (similar to the MBM1) for 2009. In 2010 the finish was changed to silver with black graphic.[2]

Other models[]

Besides his two signature models, Matt Bachand also used two custom SZ series guitars (one with a red finish, the other with a natural finish), featuring an EMG 81 in the bridge position and an EMG 60 or 85 in the neck position.

Bachand's departure[]

Bachand left Ibanez after 2010 and both signature models were discontinued. He subsequently signed to endorse Legator guitars, which has produced a new signature model for him.[3]
