The M522S is an F-style acoustic mandolin model introduced by Ibanez for 2006. It is made in China.
The M522S features an F-style mandolin body constructed of a solid Sitka spruce top with ƒ holes on a flamed maple back and sides with a high gloss finish. It has a mahogany neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with binding and pearl block position markers. Components include a purpleheart saddle on a rosewood bridge, a plastic nut, gold open gear tuning machines with pearl acrylic buttons, a black pickguard and bronze strings.
For 2010 the mahogany neck was changed to maple. For 2015 the fretboard inlays changed from pearl to acrylic block. For 2018 the rosewood fretboard and bridge were replaced with purpleheart. For 2020 the body length and width were enlarged. For 2021 the body width was again very slightly increased.
The M700S is a related model with an engraved top and dot fretboard inlays.
