The James "Munky" Shaffer series is a line of solid body electric guitar models manufactured by Hoshino Gakki and sold under the Ibanez brand. It is the signature series of guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer who is known primarily as the rhythm guitarist of the American nu metal group Korn.
Shaffer's signature guitars are based on the RG series and later the RGA series.
History[]
The initial model in the James "Munky" Shaffer series was the K7, which was introduced for 2001. Shaffer shared this signature guitar with his Korn bandmate Brian "Head" Welch. The two were early adopters of the seven string guitar which had been popularized by Steve Vai's Universe series.
For 2007 the K7 was discontinued with Welch departing from Ibanez (having already split with Korn) and Shaffer was given an individual signature guitar. Shaffer's new guitars were dubbed Apex and remained fairly similar to the initial K7.
Between the K models and the Apex models Shaffer has had a total of eight signature models from Ibanez as of 2024.
