The JS2GD features an alder body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot position markers. Components include an Edge double locking tremolo bridge, a locking nut and a set of DiMarzio humbucking pickups with a FRED at the bridge and single-coil sized Satch Tracks in the middle and neck positions, and Gotoh machine heads. Controls consist of a master volume with push/pull hi-pass filter, a master tone with push/pull coil-split for the bridge pickup, and individual toggles for each pickup.
The JS2GD is the first production Satriani model with an HSS pickup configuration, and the first with a middle pickup since the JS1 in 1993.
From the press release: "To honor the world-renowned Joe Satriani Signature Series, the Ibanez R&D team worked closely with Joe to develop a finish that was worthy of Joe's approval. Each and every "JS2GD" will have passed stringent Ibanez quality control standards, however due to the unique nature of this striking finish, some minor imperfections may be expected, are considered normal."
The JS1CR is a related model with different pickups and a chrome finish. The JS1GD is a related model introduced in 2025 with a sustainer neck pickup and a few other changes.
The JS2GD was discontinued after 2023 in all markets except Japan. It was discontinued completely in early 2025.
