The JS1 is a JS series guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1990. It was the first signature model produced for American guitarist Joe Satriani.
The JS1 was based on the Radius series with some minor modifications to the body shape. It features an American basswood body with bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot position markers. Components include DiMarzio pickups, a double locking tremolo bridge and Gotoh tuning machines. The controls consist of a master volume pot with a push-pull high pass filter, a master tone with a push-pull which splits both humbuckers and a pickup selector.
Significant changes were introduced in 1992: a middle single coil pickup was added along with a 5-way lever pickup selector replacing the 3-way toggle, the new Lo-Pro Edge tremolo replaced the original Edge trem and a matching headstock was added. These models late-model JS1's are the only JS models introduced to date (as of 2019) with a middle pickup.
