JGM5 Black Satin (more images)

The JGM5 is an acoustic/electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in mid-2021. It is the second signature model offered by Ibanez for English singer-songwriter Jon Gomm. It is part of the Platinum Collection series. It is produced in China.

Features[]

The JGM5 is perfectly tailored to the demands of the famous fingerstyle virtuoso with its extraordinary features and comprehensive functionality. High-quality tonewoods with thermo treatment, a modified X-M bracing and last but not least the wafer-thin matte finish of the top create a unique sound that unfolds powerfully even with light strokes. Another highlight is the extensive Fishman pickup system, which transmits the acoustic sound unaltered to the amplifier.

In addition to the large jumbo body with a soft Venetian cutaway, the solid Sitka spruce top provides a powerful and defined sound. This is enriched by the laminated Pau Ferro body with warm and wide bass frequencies. This way, fine pickings as well as expressive strummings come perfectly into their own. Meanwhile, a generous cutaway allows excellent access to all 20 frets. The five-piece mahogany and pau ferro neck joins the body at the 14th fret and is equipped with a high-quality 20-fret fingerboard made of Macassar ebony, which measures a wide 45mm at the nut offering enough space to master even complex fingering patterns with ease.

A compensated bridge inlay and a bone nut ensure clean intonation on the long 655mm (25¾") scale neck. The six steel strings can be easily tuned with the help of chrome-plated die-cast tuners and terminate in a top-loading bridge made of Macassar ebony. To separate the matte black top from the high gloss lacquered sides and back, the top is surrounded by a fine binding of Macassar ebony.

The elaborate Fishman pickup can be adjusted via a control in the soundhole, which allows the two pickup points to be cross-faded. An extra switch on the magnetic soundhole pickup additionally boosts the bass frequencies if required. This guarantees a perfect performance à la Jon Gomm. The Fishman PowerTap Earth Blend preamp feeds a pair of jacks: one stereo/mono jack integrated with the strap button and a separate mono flush-mounted jack. Both jacks delivers the signal from the magnetic pickup and the contact pickup as well as the microphone independently (which requires a TRS-to-TRS cable or a TRS-to-stereo "Y" cable to split). Alternately, one can connect a pair of TS cables to the jacks; in this case the endpin jack will carry the signal from the magnetic pickup and microphone while the flush mount jack will provide the contact pickup output.

For 2025 the body length was shortened.

The JGM10 is a similar model.
