The JEM77 is a JEM series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1991. It is a signature model of guitarist Steve Vai which was produced in Japan by FujiGen. It is commonly referred to as the JEM77 BFP (Blue Floral Pattern) to avoid confusion with other JEM77 models.
The JEM77 BFP features a special blue floral pattern finish. It has a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret maple fingerboard with blue Tree of Life inlays. Components include DiMarzio pickups with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge and Gotoh tuning machines.
The JEM77 BFP was the second JEM with a floral pattern after the original JEM77 FP. The finish of the JEM77 BFP was created with a paper print of a floral pattern glued to the body and headstock and then clear coated. This method differs from the original Floral Pattern models which were covered with floral pattern cloth.
The JEM77 BFP was discontinued after 1996. A visually similar model, the JEM77P was introduced in 2015.
