The JCRG2304SM is a limited edition RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2023. It was crafted in Japan by Sugi as part of the exclusive J Custom line.
The JCRG2304SM design is different from the normal RG, with a 628mm scale neck and a slightly smaller body design. It features alder body with (4mm) selected Spalted Maple top bolted to a roasted maple and bubinga RG J Custom Wizard neck with a 24-fret (stainless steel) selected ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dots inlays and luminlay side dots (in one model the roasted maple is also flamed, which is quite unusual for RGs).
Components include a set of DiMarzio's pickups, a rather unusual Dyna-MIX10 switching system (similar to the AZ series) enables a wide range of 10 types of sound control, including coil taps, Gotoh SG381 MG-T locking machine heads (which is also not common for J Custom previously), Gotoh Strap lock pins and cosmo black hardware and includes a hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.
A specificity of the JCRG2304 models is the wooden matching tremolo and electronic cavity covers. In the JCRG2304SM model these covers are made of Spalted Maple to match the top.
Another difference compared to many J-Custom models are the bridge pickup model which is a Steve's Special (instead of a DiMarzio Tone Zone) and the Original Edge Tremolo (instead of a Lo-Pro Edge or Edge Zero).
The JCRG2304BM is a similar model with burl maple top and other finishes. The JCRG2304FM is a related model with flamed maple top and spider black finish. The JCRG2304QM is a similar model with quilted maple top and lapiz lazuli finish.
The JCRG2304SM was produced only in 2023, with production believed to be limited to only two examples.
