The Genesis Collection is a range of solid body electric guitars produced for Hoshino Gakki and sold under the Ibanez brand. The name was first applied to a line of reissue RG series guitars that were offered only in Japan in 2013, but other models followed. It was meant to be a more affordable access point to a Japanese-made instrument than the existing Prestige range.
In 2014 a group of Artist series guitars was offered, once again limited to the Japanese domestic market. In 2017 a new batch of throwback RG guitars was introduced, this time being sold worldwide.
The Genesis Collection guitars are made in Japan by FujiGen to specs that are similar to the original RG550 and its kin which led Ibanez's emergence in the late 1980s. For example, the RG models have a tilt neck joint rather than the more modern All Access neck joint.
History[]
The RG series has been a rock and metal standard since the late 1980s. The Genesis Collection celebrates these legendary axes with classic RG550 and RG570 reissues.
First built in 1987, the original Ibanez RG550 is revered by rock and metal guitarists. This Genesis Collection reissue takes its ancestor's classic design and adds a few modern touches. The original's 1-piece maple neck has been upgraded with a 5-piece laminated maple/walnut one. Its versatile HSH pickup configuration has been overhauled with modern V7 and V8 humbuckers.
