The GRG170DXL is a left-handed RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2004. It is part of the entry-level GIO line. It has been produced in both Indonesia and China with Chinese production starting one year after the launch in 2005 and Indonesian production ceasing after 2017.
The GRG170DXL features Ibanez pickups, a synchronized tremolo bridge and a bound fingerboard with sharktooth inlays. It is produced simultaneously in China and Indonesia for different markets around the world.
For 2018 the fretboard material was changed from rosewood to treated New Zealand pine for markets outside of Europe. The rosewood fretboard on the European version was changed to jatoba in late 2018. For 2019 the body wood species was switched to poplar, the FAT-10 tremolo was replaced with the T102 and the fretboard was switched to treated New Zealand pine in all markets. For 2020 the fretboard was changed to purpleheart.
