The DT165 is a Destroyer series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1984. It was made in Japan and was a spot model for sale exclusively by Japanese musical instrument retailer Ikebe. It was limited to 16 units.
Very little is known about the materials used to build this guitar. Based on similar models in range it is fair to assume the basswood body with birch top and ivory binding mated to a bolt-on 1-ply maple neck with a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with white plastic dot position markers. Components include a trio of Ibanez V2 humbucking pickups, Tek Grip knobs and Smooth Tuner II machine heads. The pickups are wired such that the 3-way toggle controls which of the outside pickups are active (neck/ both/ bridge) and volume for these pickups is controlled by a single control. The second volume control allows the center pickup to be blended in with any combination of the other two. A single tone covers all three pickups. It came equipped with Powerocker tremolo.
The DT155 and DT555 are similar models with different components.
Similarly to the DT555, it was not officially designated as a signature model, but was promoted by Ikebe as an instrument related to Def Leppard guitarist's Phil Collen.
