The Brian "Head" Welch series is a line of solid body electric guitar models manufactured by Hoshino Gakki and sold under the Ibanez brand. It is the signature series of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch who is known primarily as the lead guitarist of the American nu metal group Korn.
Welch's signature guitars are based on the RG series and later the RGD series.
History[]
The initial model in the Brian "Head" Welch series was the K7, which was introduced for 2001. Shaffer shared this signature guitar with his Korn bandmate James "Munky" Shaffer. The two were early adopters of the seven string guitar which had been popularized by Steve Vai's Universe series.
Welch left Korn in 2005 and the K7 was discontinued after 2006, with Welch splitting ways with Ibanez as well. After Welch rejoined Korn in 2012, he subsequently rejoined Ibanez in 2014 with a completely new guitar, the KOMRAD20, which is based on the longer-scale RGD series.
Welch again left Ibanez in late 2016, this time signing with ESP/LTD.
