Thank you! Searching around on SF470's and looking at pictures, I think you're probably right. I saw it in a local shop; they're offering it "sale" at $499. I've played acoustics for 30 years, and have a Taylor T5 which I've enjoyed for years, acoustic. I'm just getting ready to step into electric and plugging in. I know basically nothing about electric guitars. I really like the action of my Taylor. The neck on this Ibanez felt good, and I like how slim and contoured it is. I just have no way to judge the price, not having the experience. I'm thinking of waiting until after Christmas and counteroffering. I'd be getting a Blackstar ID:Core 10 V2 to go with it.
Any advice would be very welcome.
It's probably not a ridiculous price. This is a fairly unusual guitar; most S series guitars have Floyd Rose style trems. As such, it's hard to nail down a fair price.
There's a black SF470 on eBay listed with a starting bid of $298, but shipping from Japan adds $120. Also, in general, black guitars usually sell for a bit less, and that one has stock pickups. The most recent sale on eBay was another black one with a "best offer" accepted from a list price of $385 (plus $50 shipping), so we don't really know the actual sales price. If it's in good shape and the aftermarket pickups sound good to you I'd go for it, especially if you could get the price down closer to $400.
As far as the guitar, I think it would make a good first electric. I'm guessing that you're looking for something with a fixed bridge. The Ibanez necks are among the thinnest and flattest out there. I'm a bit surprised that it felt natural to you coming from a Taylor, but if you liked the feel of the thin neck you can't go wrong with Ibanez.
