The AZ226 is an AZ series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2020. It was produced in Indonesia as part of the mid-tier Premium line.
The AZ226 features an American basswood body bolted to a roasted maple neck with a roasted maple fingerboard with 22 stainless steel frets, black dot position markers and luminescent side dots. Components include direct mounted Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups with a humbucker with a chrome cover at the bridge and single-coils in the neck and middle positions, a Gotoh T1502 two-point synchronized tremolo bridge, a Graph Tech TUSQ nut, and Gotoh locking tuning machines.
The AZ226 employs a dyna-MIX9 switching system (see diagram below) with an "Alter switch" toggle which allows the user to access nine distinct tones. The Alter switch allows the player to access two modes with the single coils connected in series creating a tone similar to a second humbucker.
The AZ226PB is a similar model with a poplar burl top. The AZ224F is a similar model with a flamed maple top and a white pearloid pickguard.
The AZ226 was discontinued after 2021.
