The AZ2204 is an AZ series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2018. It is produced in Japan by Fujigen as part of the upscale Prestige line.
The AZ2204 features an alder body bolted to an S-Tech roasted maple oval C shaped neck with an S-Tech roasted maple fingerboard with 22 stainless steel frets, black dot position markers and Luminlay side dots. Components include Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups mounted in a white pearloid pickguard with a humbucker at the bridge and single-coils in the neck and middle positions, a Gotoh T1802 two-point synchronized tremolo bridge with titanium saddles, an oil-impregnated bone nut, an angled output jack and Gotoh locking tuning machines with height-adjustable posts.
The AZ2204 employs a dyna-MIX9 switching system (see diagram below) with an "Alter switch" toggle which allows the user to access nine distinct tones. The Alter switch allows the player to access two modes with the single coils connected in series creating a tone similar to a second humbucker.
A version with a gold finish was offered as part of the "Gold Collection" introduced at the Musical Instruments Fair Japan in October 2018. A sea foam blue finish was announced in late 2019 as an exclusive for German and Austrian markets. A new Hazy Rose Metallic finish was introduced for 2020.
The AZ2204B is a similar model with a black pickguard. The AZ2204F is a similar model with a flamed maple top. The AZ2204KB is a similar model with a Hawaiian koa top. The IKAZ01, IKAZ02 and IKAZ03 are similar spot models with different finishes which were made for Japanese retailer Ikebe Gakki and released in late 2019. The KSAZ02 is a similar spot model with gold hardware made for Japanese retailer Kurosawa Gakki. The AZ2206S is a related spot model without a pickguard. The AZ2204N is a related model with a non-recessed tremolo, different pickups, a rosewood fretboard and a red tortoise pickguard.
