The AX38 is an Axstar series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1985. It was made in Japan.
The AX38 has a swoopy, pointy, X-style basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include Ibanez pickups with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a Hard Rocker Pro synchronized tremolo bridge and Smooth Tuner II machine heads. The neck and headstock are painted black. Controls consist of a master volume, a 3-way pickup toggle which selects between the neck and bridge pickups (both in the middle position) and a separate volume to allow the center pickup to be blended in with any combination of the humbuckers.
The AX35 is a similar model with a humbucker/single/single pickup configuration. The AX30 is a version without the middle single coil pickup. The AX48 is a similar model with a different tremolo system employing a locking nut.
The AX38 was discontinued after 1985 in favor of a new line of headless Axstar models introduced for 1986.
