AW50ECE Natural High Gloss (2013–2016) (more images) |
The AW50ECE is an Artwood series acoustic-electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2012. It was made in China and was sold only in the USA.
The AW50ECE features a dreadnought body shape with a soft Venetian cutaway constructed of a solid Sitka spruce top with binding on sapele back and sides with a gloss finish. The soundhole is round with a black and white multi rosette and a black pickguard. The mahogany neck has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with small white dot position markers. Components include an Ivorex II saddle in a rosewood bridge with white Ibanez Advantage bridge pins, an Ivorex II nut and chrome Ibanez Smooth Tuner AS tuning machines.
Electronics consist of an Ibanez under saddle pickup connected to an Ibanez SPT Shape Shifter preamp with onboard tuner powered by a 9V battery and a ¼" output.
Several changes were introduced in mid-2012: the body depth was increased slightly as was the neck scale, the back and sides changed from sapele to mahogany, the Ivorex saddle and nut were replaced with plastic and the tuners were changed to Ibanez die-cast. For 2016 the electronics were changed with a Fishman Sonicore under saddle pickup and an Ibanez AEQ-SP2 pre-amp.
The AW50 is a similar acoustic-only model without the cutaway body. The AW54CE is a related model with a solid mahogany (later okoume) top. The AW65ECE is a related model with a solid cedar top and no pickguard. The AW58E is a related model with rosewood back and sides and without the cutaway and with different electronics. The AW70ECE is a related model with a tortoise pickguard and different binding.
The AW50ECE was discontinued in 2016.
