The AS153 is an Artstar series hollow body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2013. It was initially made in China but production moved to Indonesia in mid-2018.
The AS153 features a semi-hollow, double cutaway body design with a flamed maple top with ƒ holes and cream multi-binding on flamed maple back and sides mated to a set-in mahogany and maple neck with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with cream binding and pearl/acrylic and abalone split block position markers. Components include a pair of Ibanez Super 58 humbucking pickups with gold covers and individual volume and tone controls and a Tri-sound switch for the neck, a Tune-o-matic style bridge and tailpiece, a bone nut, a pickguard painted to match the top, Sure Grip III knobs, and Ibanez tuning machines.
For 2015 the pearl and abalone inlays were replaced with acrylic and abalone. For 2019 the mahogany and maple neck was replaced with nyatoh and maple. For 2020 the bridge was replaced with the new Gibraltar Artist. For 2021 the fretboard material was changed to Macassar ebony.
The AS153L is a left-handed version. The AS153B is a similar model with a maple body. The AS200 is an related model with more upscale components and features. The AM153 and AM153QA are related models with slightly smaller figured bubinga and quilted ash bodies.
