The AS120 is an Artstar series hollow body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1995. It was made in South Korea. It was initially produced by Samick, (serial numbers that start with an S) with production moving to Cort (serial numbers that start with C or no letter at all) sometime in 1995.[1]
The AS120 features a semi-hollow, double cutaway body design with an arched, laminated maple top with ƒ holes and ivory colored multi-binding on maple back and sides with a center block mated to a set-in maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with ivory colored binding and pearl and abalone split block position markers. Components include a pair of Ibanez Super 50 (in the Samick production only) or (Korean) Super 58 humbucking pickups with gold covers and individual volume and tone controls, black pickup rings, a Tune-o-matic style Full Tune (II) bridge, a standard tailpiece (until 2002, when it was replaced by a Quick Change [II or III]), a plastic nut, a black pickguard, gold colored plastic Top hat knobs and later gold colored plastic Speed knobs, and Ibanez tuning machines with ivory colored plastic and later pearloid buttons.
For 1996 the bridge was changed to the Full Tune II. Several changes were introduced for 1997: the AS120 adopted a new shape with the more pointed horns of the AS200, the pickups were changed to Super 58s and speed knobs were introduced.
The AS80 is a related model with dot fretboard inlays. The AF120 is a related model with a larger, full-hollow, single cutaway body.
