The AR2 features a mahogany body with purfling and creme binding mated to a set-in mahogany neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with binding and pearloid block position markers. Components include a Gotoh fixed bridge and tailpiece, bone nut, Gotoh tuners, Sure Grip III knobs and dual Ibanez Super 58 humbucking pickups mounted in creme mounting rings with individual volume and tone controls.
The version with the Gold Top finish was also referred to as the AR2GT. Other Artist models in the collection are the AR1FM (with flamed maple top), the AR3AH (ash body) and the AR3MH (natural finish mahogany body).
The AR2 was sold only in Japan and was offered only in 2014.
