The AM series is a line of hollow body electric guitars produced for Hoshino Gakki and sold under the Ibanez brand. The AM body type is a compact, semi-hollow, double cutaway electric guitar with a symmetrical shape characterized by two small, semi-pointed horns. The AM body was introduced in 1982 as the Stagemaster line.
The AS50 introduced in 1980 was a model with a downsized AS model body; this could be considered the progenitor of the AM line. The intial models in the line were the budget AM50, the flagship AM205 and the tremolo-equipped AM255. AM models have been produced continually since 1982.
