The AEW40AS is an AEW series acoustic/ electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2015. It was produced in China.
The AEW40AS features a grand concert shaped body with a soft Florentine cutaway. The top is laminated figured ash with multi wooden binding on figured ash back and sides with a high gloss finish. The round soundhole has a maple rosette. It has a mahogany neck with a dovetail neck joint and a 25½" scale, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with maple dot position markers. Components include a plastic saddle in a rosewood bridge, black plastic bridge pins, a plastic nut, and chrome Ibanez die-cast tuning machines with black buttons.
Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore pickup, an Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp with onboard tuner powered by a 9V battery and balanced XLR and ¼" outputs.
For 2018 the fretboard and bridge were changed to treated New Zealand pine.
The AEW4012AS is a 12-string version. The AEW40CD is a related model with a walnut body. The AEW40ZW is a related model with a zebrawood body. The AEW51 is a related model with a spruce top and rosewood, spalted maple and walnut mosaic back and sides.
The AEW40AS was discontinued after 2018.
