The AEL2012E is a twelve string AEL series acoustic-electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2008. It was produced in China.
The AEL2012E features a thin jumbo AEL body with a Venetian cutaway. The top is laminated flamed maple with white and black multi-binding on maple back and sides with a high gloss finish. The round soundhole has an abalone rosette. It has a mahogany neck with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot position markers. Components include an Ivorex II saddle in a rosewood bridge, Ibanez Advantage bridge pins, an Ivorex II nut, and gold Ibanez Smooth Tuner AS tuning machines.
For 2013 the nut and saddle were changed to plastic. For 2014 the tuners were changed to Ibanez die-cast.
Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore undersaddle pickup, an Ibanez AEQ-SST preamp with onboard tuner powered by a 9V battery, and balanced XLR and ¼" outputs. For 2016 the preamp was changed to the Ibanez AEQ-SP2.
The AEL20E is a six string version. The AEL2012E (flamed sycamore) is a related model sold in other markets with a flamed sycamore top and different electronics. The AEL1512E is a similar model with a spruce top.
This version of the AEL2012E was discontinued after 2017.
