The AE205J is an AE series acoustic/electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 2018. It was produced in China as a spot model for sale exclusively by retailer Shimamura in Japan.
The AE205J features a Venetian cutaway body shape with a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped cross-bracing and mahogany back (with Tone Projection cross bracing) and sides with a gloss finish. The soundhole is round with an abalone and maple rosette and a red tortoise pickguard. It has a satin-finished mahogany neck with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with wooden vine inlays. Components include a compensated bone saddle in a rosewood bridge with black Ibanez Advantage pins, a bone nut, and chrome tuning machines. Electronics consist of a T-bar undersaddle pickup connected to an Ibanez Custom Electronics AHA-1 preamp mounted internally with a ¼" endpin output.
For 2019 the back and sides were changed from mahogany to okoume and the neck was changed from mahogany to nyatoh.
The AE205A is a similar model with an ivory pickguard. The AE205 is a similar model with a ovangkol fretboard and bridge after 2017. The AE245 is a similar model with a mahogany top. The AE205JR is a related model with a downsized body and a shorter scale neck.
The AE250J was discontinued after 2019.
