The 540S is an S series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1987.
This new version was sold in 1992 exclusively in the US market alongside the original 540S. It differs in the pickup configuration as well as the fretboard.
This version of the 540S features a mahogany body bolted to a maple Wizard neck with a 22-fret maple fretboard. It uses IBZ/USA pickups made by DiMarzio with F1 and F2 humbuckers mounted in pickup rings at the bridge and neck flanking a C2 noiseless, stacked single coil pickup (which Ibanez describes as "vertical humbucking" pickup). Components include a Lo-Pro Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines.
This version of the 540S was continued for 1993 as the S540.
