The 3557 (also referred to as 3557S and 3557/S) is a TAMA acoustics series acoustic guitar model introduced by Hoshino for 1971. It was produced in Hoshino's own TAMA Seisakusho Co. in Aichi, Japan.
The 3557S features a dreadnought body with solid sitka spruce top bound with abalone binding on selected jacaranda (Brazilian rosewood) back and sides. The round soundhole is trimmed with multiple inlaid rings rosette and a black pickguard. The hand-shaped mahogany neck with adjustable truss rod has a 20-fret ebonized rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot position markers and a rosewood headstock. Components include a plastic saddle in an adjustable rosewood bridge, a bone nut, and chrome plated die-cast machine heads.
For 1974 the bridge pins were changed to black with white dots.
The 3557P is a similar model with a special plywood top. The 3557S/12 is a similar 12-string version. The 3555 is a similar model with selected matched Indian rosewood back and sides and black nylon Smooth Tuners.
