The 2663SL is an Artist series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1975. It was made in Japan by FujiGen. It was also referred to as the 2663-SL, The Flash III or the Iceman SL.[1]
Although these were grouped with the Artist series, they have a very different body shape than the typical Artist guitar. This shape was developed by Hoshino Gakki in partnership with Greco (whose version was called the Mirage), Daiwa and FujiGen. The Iceman name was not used until 1978, but these 2663 models are considered part of the Iceman lineage.
The 2663SL features a mahogany top on a mahogany body mated to a set-in 3-ply mahogany neck with a 22-fret ebonized rosewood fingerboard with binding and pearloid parallelogram position markers. Components include a Tune-o-matic style fixed bridge, a stop tailpiece with stylized chrome "ashtray" cover, a specially designed Triple-coil pickup with a sliding mount, a bone nut, speed knobs, and Smooth Tuner machine heads. The output jack is mounted on the face of the guitar.
The sliding mechanism was devised from a pair of linear potentiometers mounted to the body cavity beneath the pickup.[2] This allowed the pickup to be moved from the neck to bridge position or anywhere in between to alter the tone. Controls consist of a single volume and tone and a bass cut.
The 2663TC is a similar model with the triple coil pickup mounted at the bridge and a 4-way coil-split selector. The 2663 is a similar model with a more traditional two humbucker pickup configuration.
The 2663SL was discontinued after 1977.
